Dublin Food Forum 2011

Fingal Enterprise Week

Fingal Enterprise Week

Fingal Enterprise Week got off to a flying start with the first ever Dublin Food Forum taking place.

Hosted by Country Crest at their headquarters in Lusk, two hundred guests from the food and agri-food sectors across the capital attended the inaugural meeting, organised by the Fingal County Enterprise Board and the Dublin Food Chain to mark Fingal Enterprise Week.

Michael Hoey, founder of Country Crest, was one of four key industry speakers alongside Conor Hyde from the Dublin Food Chain, William Linnane from Tesco and Michael Lauhoff from Bank of Ireland. The Minister for Health, Dr. James Reilly T.D., gave the opening address and the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Shane McEntee T.D, delivered the closing address.

According to Oisin Geoghegan, C.E.O. of Fingal County Enterprise Board, the event appealed to both established and emerging food sector businesses. “The Dublin Food Forum was the first and largest event of its kind for the food sector in the capital and it was one of the biggest events of Fingal Enterprise Week. It gave start-up companies and more established businesses an ideal platform to share ideas, exchange information and build contacts with each other through networking.”

Country Crest, one of Fingal’s biggest success stories, is a major supplier of fresh and chilled foods to supermarket groups. Hoey, who co-founded the company with his brother, Gabriel, highlighted the importance of the Irish food sector to the overall economy. He said: “The growing export market for Irish food demonstrates the crucial role that the sector plays in our overall economic recovery. Initiatives such as the Dublin Food Forum supports the development of the food industry, which in turn, will reap rewards for Dublin and Ireland.”

After the presentations and ‘questions and answers’ session with industry peers, guests at the forum sampled several Country Crest dishes such as beef stroganoff, traditional cottage pie, honey roasted vegetables, garlic baby potatoes, chicken curry and a wide selection of luxury desserts.

The Dublin Food Chain is run in conjunction with the Irish Exporters Association and is supported by the four County and City Enterprise Boards in Dublin. Fingal Enterprise Week, which is supported by Fingal County Council, Bank of Ireland and Newstalk and organised by Fingal County Enterprise Board, continues until Friday, September 30th.
