A shortlist of organisations, individuals and programmes that utilised London 2012 to trigger positive social change has been revealed ahead of the first-ever Beyond London 2012 Awards, to be held at City Hall, London, on Monday 15th July.<\/p>\n

Across the shortlist, 19 projects have been recognised for their efforts to harness the power of the London Games to address issues spanning from sustainability, to employability, to inclusion, to innovation.<\/p>\n

The winners of the Beyond London 2012 Awards will be announced on the night of 15th July in front of an exclusive gathering of 250 leaders in sport, business, development and government. The Awardees will receive business support and\/or funding packages through the Beyond Sport Foundation, provided by the event’s category partners BT, Barclays, P&G, RP Global, Sport Relief and LOCOG. It is also being backed by The Daily Telegraph, Smart, Smyle and Icon.<\/p>\n

The event’s attendees will be joined by Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, and Beyond Sport Ambassador Lord Coe, current Chair of International Inspiration (IN) and former Chairman of London 2012, along with other sporting and governing leaders, including: Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, LOCOG Board Member and Paralympic Legend; Andrew Mitchell MP, International Inspiration trustee; Tessa Jowell MP; John Amaechi, former NBA player and London 2012 BBC Basketball Commentator; and Ade Adepitan, Paralympic Medallist and London 2012 C4 Paralympics Presenter.<\/p>\n

The shortlist was chosen from a mix of nominations from experts and an open-entry process, depending on the category. From large corporations striving to set the standard around sustainability, to small community sports programmes launched in the shadow of the Olympic Park, to professional football clubs that went beyond the expected, to global campaigns that raised awareness around key issues, these shortlisters showcase how London 2012 has highlighted the positive power of sport one year on from the Games.<\/p>\n
