October 2013 monthly round-up

October at the Barbican sees the opening of Pop Art Design, a major exhibition exploring the interaction between the fields of art and design and featuring the work of over 70 artists and designers including Peter Blake, Judy Chicago, Richard Hamilton and Charles and Ray Eames.

The Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, led by its music director Riccardo Chailly, will perform a complete cycle of Brahms's symphonies and concertos for their second International Associate residency, while in the theatre Barbican Artistic Associate Boy Blue Entertainment present The Five & the Prophecy of Prana, an explosive narrative dance work integrating hip-hop, manga and martial arts.

The month also sees the 2013 edition of the annual Transcender series which focuses on hypnotic, psychedelic and transcendental music and features an evening of reinterpretations of Terry Riley’s In C by Pantha Du Princeand Matthew Herbert alongside the UK premiere of Joshua Light Show. The Barbican will also present two productions as part of the CASA Latin American Theatre Festival in The Pit as well as the ever popularBicycle Film Festival and London International Animation Festival in the cinemas.
