North West Logging Greats

Douglas Fir Log

Douglas Fir Log

We often receive emails these days and then a few of them stimulate one to create a post out of them, this is one such occasion.

Not so long ago the chopping down of the massive trees was a manual task. They first needed to chop into the giant tree before they could shout the now famous word, TIMBER.

Once the tree was down it had to be sawed into massive logs. The axes used to first chop the trees down were large and heavy in size however the saw was easy the equivalent to the size of a house.

Once the logs were cut into varying sizes the loggers then needed to get the logs down the mountains to the trains which would then transport them to their next destination.

As can be seen some logs were made into mobile homes or offices.

A bygone era and a period of American history.
