Global Game Jam 2013

Global Game Jam 2013

Global Game Jam 2013

The computing faculty at Griffith College Dublin will host their third annual Games Jam on campus from Friday, 25th January to Sunday, 27th January. The event is part of the world-wide Global Games Jam, which sees over 10,000 people participate, and tasks computer game experts to create and build a game in 48-hours.

52 gaming enthusiasts and computing students are already registered to participate in the event at the South Circular Road campus, Dublin 8.

On Friday afternoon a video will be shown which gives advice from leading international games developers and then the theme of the Jam will be revealed. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on the theme, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon.

The event is organised by the International Games Developers Association and 2012 saw a Guinness World Record created with over 2,000 games built in 242 locations in 47 countries.

Speaking about the initiative, computing course director at Griffith College Eoin Carroll said; “It is fantastic to see Ireland being represented in this Global Games Jam and we are very pleased to host it here at Griffith College. It is a great challenge for students and, although there is a serious time constraint in place, we still see superb talent and creativity each year.”

“The Jam sees links created between games developers around the world which benefits the sharing of expertise in the industry and we see this as a very important part of our students’ career development,” he concluded.
