Round Wales charity walker

Charity walker gets sponsorship boost

Charity walker gets sponsorship boost

A charity walker who is walking around Wales to help a three-year-old girl take her first steps has had a boost from a specialist orthotics company.

Ace Feet in Motion, based in Cardiff,  has given David Summers a pair of specially designed trainers and inserts to help him successfully cover the mileage.

David aims to walk 20 miles per day in order to complete the 500-mile journey in the period 14 September-8 October.

He hopes to raise £10,000 to help cerebral palsy sufferer, Olivia Robinson, receive vital treatment to help her walk,  at the Footsteps Clinic in Oxford.

David, who works with Olivia’s mum, Beth., at the Office for National Statistics in Newport, was moved by the little girl’s plight, and decided to embark on a fund-raising walk.

“Olivia’s sessions at the Footsteps Clinic had a huge impact on her ability to walk, but without regular treatment her muscles stiffen and she is back to squate one.

“The money will help pay for a sustained course of treatment.”

“My journey has been supported by Ace, who have kindly given me the correct footear to ensure that the strain of walking 20 miles per day for 25 days doesn’t  become too much for my body.”

Olivia’s parents, Daniel and Beth, both 29,  hope that the treatment will result in her eventually walking unaided, although this is a long way off.
