It’s now 397 days to go before the 2012 London Olympics commence and it seems the media are determined to shock us over with the outrageous news that, duh, hotels are pricing themselves for the market conditions and hotel rates are skyrocketing. And there’s the clue – market conditions: was there ever a law against pricing a product according to what people are prepared to pay? Look at footballers: we all shake ou
London Olympics, hotel rates – what’s that all about?
How big is your hotel inventory?
Over the last couple of years most of the hotel distribution systems/suppliers have made a point in boasting about how many hotels they have within their databases and point of sale booking tools. And I have to admit, Hotelzon is one of them! – By the way we have 140,000 hotels.
But what does it all mean? Why would one company boast about having a global hotel inventory as low as 35,000 hotels (or even 140,000 hotels!!) when there are companies saying that they have over 200,000.
Purchasing power by capturing and controlling volumes
This is the time of year when many Travel Managers and Indirect Sourcing professionals are busy negotiating hotel programs, car rental agreements and airline agreements. Even though some companies have chosen to distribute the workload throughout the year by setting different agreement terms within the different categories, many hotel and airline contracts are still negotiated for a calendar year at a time.
As commonly known, tracking your volumes and being able to steer booking behavior is the key to purchasing power and beneficial partnerships.

When started to develop marketing at Hotelzon 10 months ago, I had to go philosophical. After working for years in big global corporations with thousands of employees and clear processes, moving to a smaller, fast growing company, going back to basics was nothing but essential. Didn’t go far enough to ask myself “who am I” as that’s what I somewhat knew already, but I had to ask “why am I here – what is the ultimate purpose of marketing as a whole”.
The Diverse World of Human Resources
There are not many departments that in one breath can be involved in developing strategies and in the next offering a cup of tea and a box of tissues to a distressed employee. So what is Human Resources? This is something I have been asked on many an occasion and still struggle to come up with a one sentence answer. So, to summarise (so you don’t fall asleep reading this) here is my interpretation of what we do…………..
