Irish NGOs Welcome Plans to Establish Independent Charities Regulator

The 50 NGOs that make up the Dóchas network today welcomed the announcement by Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence Alan Shatter TD, that the long-awaited  Charities Regulatory Authority will be appointed by the end of February. Commenting on the announcement, Hans Zomer, Director of Dóchas, the Irish Association of Development NGOs, said:

“We welcome the Minister’s plans to finally establish an independent Charities Regulatory Authority. This is an opportunity to strengthen the sector and reinforce the crucial role in society that the sector provides.” [Read more…]

People Don’t Use Their Leave

Two thirds (65%) of Irish people don’t take all of their annual leave each year according to a new survey by Hotels.com. The research into how many holidays we take each year reveals that we appear to be a hard working nation; with just over 1 in 5 (22%) saying they are too busy at work to take all their allotted annual leave. One fifth (20%) admit that they just don’t get round to taking them and 15% make the effort to save up their days but don’t find the time to take them before the festive season. [Read more…]

A group of ten trainee pilots from Air Libya graduated from their flight simulation training in Dublin.

Simtech Aviation, which runs the Aviation Centre of Excellence near Dublin Airport, won the contract with the Middle Eastern airline to deliver Jet Orientation Course (JOC) training to the group of aspiring pilots. [Read more…]

There were widespread calls in the Seanad on Wednesday for Health Minister James Reilly and Justice Minister Alan Shatter to answer questions on revelations that state-funded agencies, as well as employees of the Health Service Executive (HSE), had been giving women illegal and potentially life-threatening advice in relation to abortion.
